Kenyan CTC Black Tea prices vary based on grade and quality, with auction rates typically ranging from $1.30 to over $5.00 per kg (FOB). The most economical grade, PD (Pekoe Dust), is priced between $1.30 and $2.00/kg, commonly used in budget tea blends and tea bags. DUST grade, slightly finer, sells for around $1.60 to $2.20/kg, offering strong color and briskness. BP (Broken Pekoe), a standard grade for commercial blends, ranges from $1.80 to $2.50/kg. The most widely traded grade, PF1 (Pekoe Fannings 1), typically fetches $2.00 to $3.20/kg, known for its strength and versatility. The premium BP1 (Broken Pekoe 1), with larger leaf particles and robust flavor, ranges between $2.50 and $4.00+/kg. In exceptional cases, high-quality PF1 or BP1 teas from top estates can command prices as high as $4.50 to $5.50/kg or more at the Mombasa Tea Auction, particularly when leaf quality and demand are high.
